Description
Water Front Property on a Ghost Lake
Once upon a time this was lake front property and people would come up from Los Angeles to fish and hunt birds. That was long ago before Los Angeles Water and Power came to the Owens Valley to bleed all the water down South. This is the stuff that the movie Chinatown was made from. The reality is there was a great farming base in this valley early in the 20th century.
The city of Los Angeles bought the land and diverted almost all the run off from the High Sierra's rivers and streams. Many towns dried up and died, Keeler still has a few people still living here.
The dry lake has been causing alkali dust storms to blown up the valley. Endangering the health of the population that still lives there.
In the last few years they have been working on bringing some water and plants back to the lake. The first couple years my Cousin was heading the project when it started. New companies are now working on it and it is still an work in progress.
